Upward Stars Teams Go 21-7 in Weekend Tournament Action and Claim Another Championship

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Upward Stars had six teams compete in tournaments this past weekend (March 23-25).   The club experienced a hot start on Friday/Saturday, going 16-2, as all teams advanced to Sunday bracket play.   The six teams continued to play well on Sunday, as the club earned a championship, a 2nd place finish, and three semi-final appearances!

Four teams competed in the Phi Slamma Jamma Tournament – BBALL Showcase Tournament.    The Upward Stars teams went a combined 14-5, with every team picking up at least two wins.   Individual team results:

·  ·      Coach Todd Gerlach (Assistant Coach-Bryce Gerlach) and the 10th Premier-North (boys) went 6-0, claiming a championship. 

·      Coach Dana Shaw (Assistant Coach-Kurt Bambauer) and the 6th Premier-North (boys) went 4-1, losing their first game in the semi-finals to the eventual tournament champion.

·      Coach Bobby More and one of our 8th Premier-North (boys) teams battled some injuries, but still finished 2-2 while advancing to the semi-finals.

·      Coach Bobby Moore (Assistant Coach:  Dominique McDonald) and 5th Select-North (boys) finished 2-2.

Coach Guse and the 6th Premier-South (girls) squad traveled to Manchester, to play in the March Madness Tournament.   The team finished 4-1, suffering their lone loss in the tournament championship.   The team earned 2nd place in an 11 team field!

Coach Vanlier and the 8th Premier-South (boys) team traveled to Gatlinburg to play in a competitive, regional event – The TN MIRACLE SPRING CLASSIC.  Coach Vanlier’s team finished 3-1, losing in the semi-finals to eventual tournament champion.

Upward Stars teams will be back in action this weekend (March 30-31), with two teams competing in the MSYS Next Generation Tournament at A-Game Sportsplex.
