Upward Stars has the desire to impact athletes mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. This impact is seen both ON and OFF the court. One way in which the OFF the court impact is accomplished is through team service projects. Teams strive to complete a service project together during the spring tournament season.
Coach Catrice James and her 7th Grade Upward Stars Girls' Team, volunteered with Youth Villages on Saturday, April 9th. Youth Villages is a program that helps with foster kids (babies through 22 years of age). They have group homes for teenagers who don't have families or must be removed from homes.
After learning about all the programs and services that Youth Villages offers, the Upward Stars' players packed school bags full of supplies for incoming children. After they packed the bags, the team wrote encouraging notes to all the children/teens that would be receiving the bags.
Members of the 7th Grade Upward Stars Girls' Team include: Addie Austin, Alexis Erickson, Emma Flegel, Kennedy Hay, Jillian Johnson, Ava Lavigne, Blythe Masterson, Neha Saggi, Tameia Shaw, and Kierra Waddell.
